KABUL (HIA) leader, in western Herat province, terming the act “against Islamic principles and Afghan values.”

An individual threw one of his shoes at Hekmatyar who was delivering sermon before last Friday’s prayers at the main mosque in Herat City, the provincial capital. The HIA leader pardoned the man who has been arrested by security forces.

Mualvi Abdullah Qurleq, a lawmaker from northern Kunduz province, said: “The young Herati man’s act was against Islamic principles and values of Afghanistan.”

He said insulting elders at sacred places like mosques was a crime and the perpetrator should be punished.

Mualvi Muhiuddin Munsif, a lawmaker from Kapisa province, shared similar views. “The incident at the Herat Jami Mosque should be strictly investigated because ignoring such incidents would allow this culture to grow,” he said.

Senate chairman Fazl Hadi Muslimyar also denounced the incident and said hurling shoes inside mosque was against Islamic principles and the Afghan culture.

He asked security departments to investigate the incident.

The person involved in the shoeing is said to be with the National Directorate of Security (NDS) department in Herat.
