Taliban commander for Jawzjan’s Khamyab district killed

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon commander and shadow district chief for Khamyab district of northern Jawzjan province was killed on Thursday along with three accomplices in a bomb blast, officials said.

Jawzjan police chief Brig. Gen. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban commander, Mullahinfo-icon Majid, and the group’s chief in Khamyab district, Mullah Abdullah, were killed with others when the bomb they were making went off in Buz Argih area of the district this morning.

The police chief said the death of the two senior rebel figures would help improve security in Khamayb and Qarqin districts of Jawzjan.

A resident of Khamyab district, who refused to be named, said that Taliban militants imposed many restrictions on local people after they killed an upraising commander in Khamab in recent days.

He said the Taliban had banned people in Qarqin district from going to Khamyab but they allowed Khamab people to go to Qarqin district.

“Taliban fear the people of Qarqin may spy on them, so they banned people of the district from entering Khamab, the Taliban have also installed a checkpoint at Khamab border to control the area,” he said.

No Taliban spokesman could be reached for comment.
