UN urged to meet Afghan govt priorities in projects

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Afghan government has urged the United Nations (UN) to implement its projects in line with the Afghan government’s priorities and national development strategy.

Farkhunda Zahra Naderi, presidential advisor on UN affairs, expressed these views during a gathering in Kabul attended by tens of civil societyinfo-icon activists, government officials and UN office staff members.

She said the event was organized to ensure that UN policies and strategies were implemented in line with the priorities of the Afghan government   and the national development plan.

“We have been trying to get UN satisfaction in respect to our national priorities and understand the cause of our national integrity so that their programs in Afghanistaninfo-icon are implemented in line with the needs of our people,” said Naderi.

She said eight committees on educationinfo-icon, healthinfo-icon, agricultureinfo-icon, refugees, repatriates and rule of law had been constituted of members from civil society organizations to discuss and work on Afghan government suggestions on how to bring UN programs in line with government priorities.

Tobi Lanzer, UN secretary general’s special advisor and coordinator of the UN assistance to Afghan government, termed UN’s activities in Afghanistan as important and said stability and security in Afghanistan was the word body’s priority.

About the Afghan government’s suggestions, she said the UN was ready to work in coordination with civil society activists and the Afghan government.
