High-ranking police official killed in Peshawar blast

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A high ranking police official was killed in a suicide attack in the capital of Pakistaninfo-icon’s northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, media reports said.

Additional Inspector General (AIG) (Headquarters) Ashraf Noor was in his car when a suicide bomber rammed his explosives-rigged bike into his police vehicle, killing him and one body guard.

Six other policemen were wounded in the blast took place near Zarghooni Mosqueinfo-icon in Hayatabad area of Peshawar.

Amid conflicting claims regarding the number of dead and injured in the blast, Peshawar city police chief Tahir Khan told reporters only AIG Noor had been martyred in the blast.

The CCPO added that at least six policemen had been injured and were shifted to Peshawar's Hayatabad Medical Complex for treatment.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the first killing an AIG in Peshawar, which lies close tribal areas.
