KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Six Afghan and Pakistani men, who were detained in 2015 after crossing the US-Mexico border illegally, have been cleared of links to the Islamic State militant group.

Arrested by US Border Patrol, the detainees were investigated by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the FBI before they were deported, according to the Associated Press.

Following their detention, suspicion of having ties to Daesh swirled around the men. But investigators did not find evidence of the men having connections with the insurgent outfit.

The illegal migrants reportedly told investigators they were fleeing violence and persecution in their countries. Four of them have been deported, with the remaining two expected to follow suit.
