KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The man who killed 10 individuals, most of them members of the same family, in Kabul has recently been released from prison, police said on Saturday.

Col. Ghulam Sakhi, the 15th police district chief in Kabul, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident occurred at around 2am on Saturday inside a home north of Kabul.

Earlier, a man had told police over the telephone that armed individuals forced their way to a home in ‘500 Family’ neighborhood of Kabul and killed all inside.

“The killer had obtained the home on lease about one year back against 200,000 afs. When he decided to leave the house, he asked the landlord to return his money, which resulted in a dispute among them.”

Col. Sakhi said following the quarrel, police arrived at the home for inquiry and found ammunition and military equipment, leading to the detention of the lessee for one year.

Sakhi added the man after serving seven months in jail had been recently released. “The killer attacked his former landlord’s home in wee hours and killed 10 people residing in the house, including womeninfo-icon and children, before managing to flee the area.”

However, Tohfa Gul, a newly-wed woman in the family, who had witnessed the incident, said there were four attackers. “When I heard gunshots, I hid under a blanket. As soon as the armed men moved to other house, I and two other family members fled the area.”

“My father-in-law and mother-in-law both were killed along with eight other relatives of ours, including two guests.”

A resident of the area, who did not want to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News the predawn incident took place in the limits of the 15th police district at 2:00am.

He said four unknown men gunned down four women, three children and one man. At least two others were injured. Two guests were among the dead. The family had a dispute, he said, without giving details.

This comes as residents of Khairkhana area claimed the area usually witnessed such incidents. Similarly, a moneychanger was killed by three attackers last week in the same area.
