KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Opener Paul Stirling’s superb century and a magic bowling spell by George Dockrell have powered Ireland to a convincing triumph in the third one-day international in Sharjah.

The left-arm spinner bagged four wickets to restrict Afghanistaninfo-icon to 177 in 48.2 overs, with Stirling smashing a 97-ball 101 to hand their side the second consecutive win that saw Ireland clinch the series,

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News the national side won the toss and chose to bat in the decider. However, Dockrell and Barry McCarthy, who claimed three scalps, kept the Afghan batsmen in check.

Rahmat Shah and Rashid Khan, scoring 44 runs each, lent a degree of respectability to Afghanistan’s total, Hotak said. Javed Ahmadi chipped in with 27, but the rest of the batsmen appeared clueless.

Ahmadi hit a couple of glorious strokes before exiting in the seventh over, followed by Noor Ali Zadran, as Dockrell and Stirling had the opposition on the rope. With 44 to his credit, Rashid Khan finished the series as Afghanistan's second-highest scorer.

As Ireland chased the target, Stirling ruthlessly whacked Shahpoor Zadran before Mujeeb Zadran, Nabi and Rashid took a wicket apiece. However, Gary aggressive stroke play by Wilson and Stirling sent the Afghans on a perfect leather hunt.

Stirling raced to his sixth ODI ton with a couple of hooks, a tennis swat and then a towering six off 93 balls. After his dismissal by Rashid, Kevin O'Brien whacked Mujeeb for two boundaries to see Ireland dry and home.
