PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A prayer leader from Afghanistaninfo-icon has been acquitted by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Pakistaninfo-icon’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The court handed down the decision after hearing arguments from both sides on Monday when the judge said the prosecution had failed to prove terror charges against the suspect.

However, the bench ordered the cleric’s deportation to Afghanistan. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had arrested Sahibur Rahman in Peshawar on January 23.

The CTD had claimed in the first information report recovering two suicide jackets and one bomb from the room of the prayer leader at the mosqueinfo-icon, his lawyer said.

He was charged under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and Section 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, the defence counsel added. But there was no solid proof that it was the suspect’s personal room.
