MPs furious at Khadim’s alleged detention by NDS

MPs furious at Khadim’s alleged detention by NDS

Dec 16, 2017 - 18:08

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A number of Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon members and civil societyinfo-icon activists on Saturday called the apprehension of Global Link and Analysis Hub (AGAH)’ head, Intizar Khadim, by the intelligence agency as against the law, saying so far there has been no clue to his fate.

Haji Zahir Qadir, a lawmaker from Nangarhar, during today’s session of the house said Khadim was detained by the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) personnel while he was returning home country from India.

“If he is not released till tomorrow, we will take a joint decision in this regard. He is neither a murderer nor a terrorist and the office of AGAH has been established in compliance with the law.”

Sadiqiq Zada Nili, a public representative from Daikundi, while accusing the NDS of taking illegal action, said Khadim should be set free at the earliest possible.

Mahmud Salimankhel, Abdu Raheem and Ali Akbar Qasimi were among other lawmakers who held similar views against the NDS move.

A number of other wrathful civil society activists also expressed reaction to the action by NDS who said despite the passage of three days, his family had not been informed about his arrest.

However, Shah Hussain Murtazawi, acting head of the Presidential Spokesperson’s Office, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he was unaware of Khadim’s arrest, stressing the matter would be shared with the NDS.

On the other hand, the intelligence agency has so far officially said nothing of Khadim detention.

But a security official, on the condition of anonymity, said claims regarding the illegal seizure of the individual were unreasonable and considering the seriousness of the matter, NDS couldn’t reveal information at anytime. “NDS never arrests someone illegally, unless it has an arrest warrant from a court.”
