NDS releases Afghan-Turk School teachers

NDS releases Afghan-Turk School teachers

Dec 17, 2017 - 15:51

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Four teachers of Afghan-Turk High School detained by personnel of National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) days before have been released and their cases have been referred to the Attorney General Office (AGO), reliable security sources said on Sunday.

A security official from NDS who wished to go unnamed said: “Four detained Afghan-Turk School teachers have been released and their cases referred to the AGO.”

The source added NDS discharged its responsibility according the law and the remaining belonged to the AGO and Interior Ministry.

Earlier, security forces have arrested one Afghan and three Turkish teachers linked to the faith-based Gülen movement.

According to the Reuters, the move against Afghan Turk CAG Educational NGO (ATCE), the organization that runs the schools, appeared to be part of a witch-hunt being waged on followers of Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, accused by the Turkish government of masterminding a coup attempt in July 2016.

The ATCE, which says it is an independent organization, runs schools in several cities including the capital, Kabul, Mazar-i-Sharif, Kandahar and Herat and has been in Afghanistan since 1995.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani was on his way to Istanbul on Tuesday to attend an Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit.

In March Afghanistaninfo-icon ordered the schools to be transferred to a foundation approved by Ankara.

Abdul Shakoor Dadras, head of the parents committee of the Afghan-Turk school students, said three of the four detained teachers had been freed while one teacher and owner of a hotel were still in the NDS custody.

It is pertinent to mention that earlier, some Turkish officials claimed that Afghan-Turk school served Fethullah Gülen movement and should be banned.
