KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Ashgabat is implementing a new electricity export scheme within the framework of the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Afghanistaninfo-icon-Pakistaninfo-icon (TUTAP) project.

Once the project is executed, Afghanistan will transform from the recipient of electricity into one transiting power, according to the Neutral Turkmenistan Newspaper.

Initial investments in TUTAP project -- part of the Action Plan for the Energy Sector of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Programme -- may be directed to the unification of the energy systems of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

Building a 500-kV air power line is being studied to export Turkmenistan’s electricity to Pakistan. Turkmenistan already supplies power at a cheaper price to Afghanistan.
