KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): America’s new strategy for South Asia is reflective of the Trump administration’s resolve to win the 16-year-old war in Afghanistaninfo-icon, the White House said on Wednesday.

While rolling out the long-expected policy in August, President Donald Trump asked Pakistaninfo-icon to demonstrate its commitment to civilisation, order and peace by disassociating itself from agents of chaos and terror.

In its year-ender, the White House said that the new strategy “strengthens our support for Afghan security forces, delegates authority to military leaders and demonstrates our resolve to defeat terrorism.”

After the announcement of the South Asia strategy, NATOinfo-icon allies and partners had ramped troop contributions to the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, the White House added.

According to Dawn, it also characterised the joint US-Pakistan operation to rescue a North American couple from Talibaninfo-icon custody as a major achievement.

Based on US intelligence, Pakistani troops rescued Caitlan Coleman, her husband Joshua Boyle and their three children during an operation in the Kurram region October.

Before being freed, the US woman and her Canadian spouse had spent nearly five years in Taliban hideouts in Pakistan and Afghanistan. All their three children were born in captivity.
