PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The stay of Afghan refugees in Pakistaninfo-icon may be extended for a period of six months, the state-run news agency reported on Thursday.

The stay for Afghan refugees in Pakistan will expire on December 31, but UNHCR has urged Islamabad to extend the duration.

Representatives of foreign, interior and State and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) ministries in Islamabad decided to extend the stay of Afghan refugees by six months.

The Associated Press of Pakistan said the SAFRON Ministry had sent a summary to the federal cabinet. The summary may be approved.

As many as 1.9 million Afghan refugees, including 1.3 million registered and 600,000 unregistered, are currently living in Pakistan.
