Militancy in Bangladesh linked to war in Afghanistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A senior Bangladeshi police officer claims that the scourge of militancy has come to his country from Afghanistaninfo-icon.

The problem surfaced in Afghanistan during the 1980s, said the head of the counter-terrorism unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Monirul Islam blamed some international quarters for misinterpreting religion and using it to influence the Afghan people.

He was quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “The militancy is a global problem. The whole worldinfo-icon has been suffering the menace.”

Speaking at a workshop organised by the Brahmanbaria district police, he said: “We are now able to deal with the issue.”
