Efforts on for honourable return of Afghan refugees: Janjua

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Haqqani networkinfo-icon is not operating on Pakistaninfo-icon’s soil, a top diplomat says, negating the US allegation that Islamabad continues to harbor the group.

Instead, the foreign secretary claims anti-Pakistan militants are gaining a foothold in eastern Afghanistaninfo-icon. From time to time, they conducted cross-border attacks on Pakistani targets, she said.

Pakistan was trying to ensure an honourable return of Afghan refugees and is working on their rehabilitation, Tehmina Janjua said in a lecture at the IBA City Campus in Karachi.

Despite recent hostile statements by President Donald Trump and other US officials, she said, Islamabad believed in continued engagement with Washington.

Instead of overly relying on the US, the foreign secretary added, Pakistan was seeking to build cooperative relationships with Russia, Iran and other countries.
