UNAMA restarts mission in Farah after 6 months

FARAH (Pajhwok): The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistaninfo-icon (UNAMA) has restarted its work or mission in western Farah province after scaling back six months ago, an official said Tuesday.

Nasir Mehri, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the UNAMA closed its office in Farah after UNSG special envoy to Afghanistan Tadamichi Yamamoto last visited the province six months ago.

He said Tadamichi found no need for the UNAMA branch to keep its presence in Farah and decided to send two employees from the central office after every 15 days to visit the province and note problems if any.

However, UNAMA restarted its work in Farah after growing interest in the province. Governor Dr. Mohammad Arif Shajehan hoped the UN mission would continue its previously job in the province.

The United Nation Assistance Mission in Afghanistan is working area of good governance, human rights, social issues and cultural affairs and coordinating with Afghanistan in development of a better societyinfo-icon.
