UNSC discusses Afghanistan’s security situation, peace process

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The UN Security Council (UNSC) would be holding a special meeting on security situation in Afghanistaninfo-icon on Friday in New York, an official said.

Sibghatullah Ahmadi, deputy spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) told Pajhwok Afghan News security situation in Afghanistan would be the main focus of the meeting and the role of Central Asian countries in Afghan peace process would be also discussed.

During the meeting, the UNSC delegation who visited Afghanistan last week would share their report, he said.

A powerful 15-member delegation, including US representative at the UNSC Nikki Haley, was part of the visit.

Ahmadi said that Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabani was expected to take part in the UNSC meeting but due to some engagements at home he was unable to travel to New York.

Rabbani had been busy in political settlement of issues triggered after the acceptance of Balkh governor resignation.
