LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Sixty-seven people, including policemen and Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, have been freed from the Talibaninfo-icon captivity as a result of security forces raid in southern Helmand province, a statement from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on Saturday.

The raid was conducted on Friday night in Baghran district, the statement said, adding personnel of National Directorate of Security and Special Forces stationed in Uruzgan had carried out the raid.

Twenty released individuals had been shifted to Kandahar City and the remaining would be transferred soon.

Umar Zwar, the Helmand governor’s spokesman, confirmed raid on the Taliban prisons but did not provide the details.

Earlier, security forces had carried out similar attacks on the Taliban prison and rescued captive people.
