Farah deputy police chief among 14 killed in blast, clashes

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Four policemen, including deputy police chief, 10 rebels have been killed and seven more policemen gone missing in fresh incidents of violence in western Farah province, an official said on Sunday.

Governor Spokesman Naser Mehri told Pajhwok Afghan News the vehicle in which Deputy Police Chief Gulbahar Mujahid was traveling to the Masawa village of Pushtroad district struck a roadside bomb.

A policeman was also injured in the roadside bombing, he said.

According to Mehri, three policemen had been injured in a separate militants attack in the Masawa village.

Ten rebels were killed and seven other injured after police reinforcement reached to the site of clash, he said.

Dadullah Qani, the Provincial Council, head said militants attacked police check-posts on Saturday night in the Syedabad Yazdi area situated three kilometers from police headquarters.

He said three policemen were killed in the attack, eight others went missing and the Talibaninfo-icon took all weapons and ammunition available in the check-posts.

 Mehri said he was unaware of the overnight attack on two police check-posts, but Javed the resident of locality, said casualties inflicted in the overnight clash but the exact number of dead and injured was not available with him.
