Ghani fueled Abdullah-Noor differences, says Massoud

Ghani fueled Abdullah-Noor differences, says Massoud

Jan 22, 2018 - 21:50

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Ahmad Shah Massoud Foundation chief Ahmad Wali Massoud on Monday accused the Presidential Palace of creating the differences between CEO Abdullah and former Balkh governor Atta Mohammad Noor.

Massoud, who arrived in the capital of northern Balkh province, Mazar-i-Sharif, met with the former governor. After his meeting with Noor, Massoud told reporters that Afghanistaninfo-icon faced a legal vacuum due to non-implementation of the Constitution and the unity government deal, which had plunged the country into crisis.

He said President Ashraf Ghani in order to reach his goals had created differences in the Jamiat-i-Islamiinfo-icon party. He called the 2014 presidential elections as full of rigging and a harbinger of the political conflict.

Calling Noor as the governor of Balkh, Massoud said the government action against him  was illegal.

But civil societyinfo-icon activists said such statements from politicians would further worsen the situation instead of bringing some relief.

Civil society activist Ahmad Javed dubbed Massoud’s remarks as one-sided and against Afghanistan’s interest. He said such statements only focused on personal and party interest.

Ahmad Wali Massoud said the solution to the tussle between Noor and the government lied in successful talks between the sides.

A day earlier, Balkh provincial council chief Dr. Mohammad Afzal Hadid told Pajhwok Afghan News that talks between the Presidential Palace and the Jamiat party had gone successful.  He said the two sides had agreed on 8 of the total 12 points.

Noor has been refusing to step down as the governor of Balkh in defiance of the president’s decision since a month ago.
