UN staff member goes missing along with son, driver in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): A female Afghan staff member of the United Nations, her son and driver have gone missing in the 17th police district of the capital, an official said on Monday.

Basir Mujahid, police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the three went missed while driving through a street at around 6am today.

He said they were 80 percent sure the driver was involved in the incident as the vehicle, lock-controlled form the main UN office, was left in the area.

Without giving information about the identity of the woman, he said investigations were underway and they had found some clues.

Mujahid added a suspected Corolla car had been seized by police near the site. No group or individual immediately claimed responsibility.

On the other hand, the UN in a statement said that the driver was more a victim rather than a suspect in the case. “The family of the driver is already traumatized, he has been a man of excellent behavior and integrity and had very good relations with all staff in the organization he worked for,” the source said.

The statement added that investigation was underway about the issue.
