MAIMANA (Pajhwok): A group of armed men clad in police uniform have kidnapped and sexually assaulted an 18-year-old girl in northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Tuesday.

Womeninfo-icon Affairs Director Sharifa Azemi told Pajhwok Afghan News that Natasha, not a real name, was kidnapped by armed men clad in police outfit while using police vehicle.

Natasha was on her way to attend tuition in Maimana, the provincial capital. She was through back on one of the road after gang raped.

She said the victim is engaged and was currently at safe home and her mental situation was unstable.

She asked the government officials to round up illegal arms and punish the perpetrators involved in Natasha rape.

Police Chief Brig. Gen. Dilawar Shah Dilawar said armed men have taken the advantage of police uniform and vehicle to kidnap and rape the teenage.

He said he was in the line of fire in Khawaja Sabz Posh district and just came to Maimana.

He expressed concern over the use of police uniform, vehicles and arms in criminal activities. Dilawar warned many areas had been captured by the militants in the past few years where police units had been dismantled but their logistics and gears could not be rounded up.

He asked the Interior Ministry to implement the policy of rounding up illegal arms soon. More details about Natasha sexual assault could not be shared.
