Taliban gun down shopkeeper in Faryab

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon militants have gunned down a 23-year-old man in the Sherin Tagab district of northern Faryab province over his alleged connection with the government, local officials said on Tuesday.

Khwaja Sirajuddin, the Sherin Tagab district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place in Qazi Qashlaq locality on Monday night.

The victim, Ghausuddin, owned a vegetable shop in the district bazaar and had no connection with the government.

He said Taliban militants kidnapped the youth him from his home and later killed him.

He said with such brutal acts, the Taliban were trying to display their power in the area

Mohammad Daud Junbish, a tribal figure of the locality, confirmed the incident, which he added occurred around one kilometer from the district’s center.

Of 134 villages in the district, only three has no presence of Taliban militants, Junbish said.
