KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Refugees from Pakistaninfo-icon’s northwestern tribal region of Waziristan rallied against Islamabad in eastern Khost province for what they called the unfair treatment of Pakhtuns.

Attended by hundreds of Waziristani tribespeople, the protest erupted at the Kalan camp in Gardez district, where the war-displaced men demanded justice for Pakistani Pakhtuns.

The demonstrators, carrying portraits of Naqibullah Mehsud who was recently killed in a police encounter in the port city of Karachi, chanted full-throated slogans against the Pakistan government.

While denouncing Mehsud’s murder, the protestors accused Pakistani officialdom of trying to induce divisions among Pakhtuns and keep deprived of their constitutionally-guaranteed rights.

Baitullah Wazir, one of the demonstrators, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “We want the governments of Punjab and Sindh to shun their cruel behaviour towards Pakhtuns…”

He hit out at the Pakistani authorities for driving Pakhtuns from their homes and selling them out as part of a sinister conspiracy.

A leader of Waziristani tribesmen, Malik Sher Aziz, urged the Pakistan government to thoroughly investigate the extrajudicial killing of Mehsud and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The victim’s family must get justice and his killed Anwar Rao, a senior police officer, be produced before the court,” he said, stressing the need for unity among Pakhtuns.
