No tolerance for states aiding, shielding terrorists: Tillerson

WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): Seeking decisive action against the Talibaninfo-icon, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Saturday said there could be no tolerance for those aiding terrorist groups.

All countries supporting peace in Afghanistaninfo-icon had an obligation to take decisive action to stop the Taliban's campaign of violence, Tillerson said in a statement after the attack in Kabulinfo-icon.

The US and Afghanistan often blame Pakistaninfo-icon for providing safe heaven to terrorists. Earlier in the month, the Trump administration suspended some $2 billion in security assistance to Pakistan for not taking action against the Taliban.

“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims who were injured and killed, and we mourn all those who lost their lives in this senseless attack,” the secretary of state said.

In a statement, Tillerson said: “The Taliban's use of an ambulance as a weapon to target civilians represents inhumane disregard for the people of Afghanistan and all those working to bring peace to the country...”

He commended the emergency service personnel for their courageous response to the terrorist attack. “The US stands with the people of Afghanistan, and we remain firmly committed to supporting the Afghan people’s efforts to achieve peace, security and prosperity for their country.”
