Kandahar trader assists Chahar Dara war-hit families

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Food and non-food items have recently been distributed among more than 300 displaced families in the capital of northern Kunduz province, Governor Asadullah Omarkhail said on Tuesday.

The governor told a meeting here the families had been displaced by the conflict from Chahar Dara district to Kunduz City, the provincial capital. The families recently received food, non-food and winter related aid provided by Yousuf Momand, a tradesman from southern Kandahar province.

The governor assured the Natural Disaster Management office would provide some cash, food and non-food items to all displaced families in Kunduz province.

Meanwhile, Salaam Hashimi, the provincial refugee and repatriation department head, said the assistance included floor, rice, sugar, tea, ghee, salt and blankets. “All the displaced families will receive the assistance gradually”.

One of the displaced persons from Yatim village of the district, Zarmina, who is living in Kunduz city, said she lost everything in the war.

She said: “I am thankful to the businessman who provided us these materials which we badly needed”.

Another displaced person, Haji Rahim, said: “This aid does not meet all our needs, we want more.”

Chahar Dara district has been the scene of fierce clashes between government and rebel forces, leaving over 4, 000 families displaced. The families have not yet received sufficient aid.
