Feb 04, 2018 - 10:08

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Nearly a dozen soldiers were killed in a suicide attack by Pakistani Talibaninfo-icon on an army unit’s playground in the scenic northwestern valley of Swat, officials say.

At least 13 security personnel were wounded as the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistaninfo-icon (TTP) bomber blew himself up in the sub-district of Kabal on Saturday evening when a volleyball match was underway.

An army captain was among the fatalities, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed, saying the injured were evacuated to Saidu District and Khwazakhela Hospitals, where a state of emergency was declared.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi denounced the assault, saying: “No cowardly attack can deter us in pursuing our struggle against the menace of terrorism to its logical conclusion. We will continue our fight till the last trace is rooted out.”

Soon after the bombing, army troops and police conducted an operation in the area to trace facilitators of the bomber.
