Uruzgan violence claims 21 lives in 24 hours

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): More than 20 people, including militants, police and civilians, have been killed in separate incidents of violence in central Uruzgan province, an official said Wednesday.

Four policemen, who were commanders of their posts, were killed after they were ambushed by Talibaninfo-icon militants in Chora district on Tuesday night, the district police chief said.

Aminullah Khaliqi told Pajhwok Afghan News another four policemen were wounded in the attack in Akhtar village of the district.

Separately, 14 Taliban militants were killed during a clearing operation near Tirinkot, the provincial capital, said 2nd Lt. Zainullah, provincial police headquarters' first division commander.

He told Pajhwok the clash took place in Khanqi locality of Tirinkot. Four bodies of the rebels remained at the clash site, he added.

In the same area, according to Zainullah, the Taliban shot dead three members of a family. The victims included a man, his wife and their baby boy

Uruzgan is an insecure province where the Taliban control a number of areas.
