After 2 years of inception, 3 Kunduz districts still in Taliban control

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The newly created three districts in northern Kunduz province have been in the Taliban control and the government has failed establish its command, local representative and the residents said on Sunday.

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani during his trip to Kunduz province two years back announced three new districts Atqash, Gultapa and Gulbad.

Provincial Council (PC) head Toryal Kakar told Pajhwok Afghan News after two years of the announcement of new districts, the Taliban still were in control of those areas.

“The provincial government has failed to bring the new districts under its control and declared them state controlled areas,” he said.

He added if these districts declared free and security forces dispatched, the move would have positive impact on overall security, he said.

Abdul Khaleq, the resident of Aqtash area said the Taliban control the area and the government has not conducted any operation.

Haji Naqibullah, the resident of Kunduz City, the provincial capital, said if the new districts recaptured from the Taliban it would have positive impact on the overall security of the province.

“The Taliban have created strong base in these areas and dispatched its fighters to other area. If the Taliban are driven from these areas it will help improve the security situation in Kunduz,” he believed.
