Daesh men among 13 rebels shun violence in Shiberghan

Feb 12, 2018 - 20:19

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Ten Talibaninfo-icon and three Daesh rebels have shunned the insurgency and joined the peace reconciliation process in northern Jawzjan province, an official said on Monday.

Governor Mualvi Lotfullah Azizi told Pajhwok Afghan News the former militants had been operating against the Afghan security forces in Darzab and Qush Tepa districts. He said the surrender would help improve security in the areas.

Ahmad Shah, the Taliban group commander, said: “I was the commander of a few Taliban fighters who joined the insurgency six months ago. Taliban negative acts in the area obligated me to part ways with them.”

He urged other insurgents to abandon Taliban ranks and join the peace process to work jointly for the country’s development.

Ghulam Rasoul, one of the Daesh rebels, said: “Joining the IS was a huge mistake for me as did nothing except robberies and attacking people”.
