2-day security conference gets under way in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A two-day security conference involving chiefs of army stafffrom four countries and NATOinfo-icon began in Kabul on Monday, officials said.

Maj. Gen. Dawlat Waziri, spokesman for the Ministry of Defence (MoD), told Pajhwok Afghan News army chiefs from Pakistaninfo-icon, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan were in Kabul to attend the meeting.

He said NATO Commander Gen. John Nicholsonwas also participating in the meeting, which started before noon in Kabul and would continue on Wednesday.

The main agenda items are boosting the fight against terrorism and narcotics. The Pakistan government announced Gen. Asif Bajwa had reached Kabul to attend the talks.

Some reports earlier said NATO commanderGen.  John Nicholson and CENTCOM head Gen. Joseph Votel would also attend the meeting, but official sources did not comment their participation.
