KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A capacity-building training program for the central bank employees commenced in Kabul on Tuesday; to prevent money laundering, corruption and deliver quality service at the bank.

Khalil Sadiq, director of Da Afghanistaninfo-icon Bank (DAB), told a press conference here that the central bank’s capacity had been boosted but still its employees needed to increase their capacity.

Flanked by WB country director in Afghanistan, Abdullohaye Seek, Sadiq said that corruption and money-laundering remained major global challenges and those doing such acts used “a very complicated system” but now the bank’s employees were being imparted the required training to deal with such issues.

He further added that 681 employees of the bank would be introduced for master’s and bachelor’s degrees and others to short term courses at private educational organizations to get relevant training nationwide.

According to him, after completing their training courses, the employees would be able to figure out where and how money-laundering was taking place.

The total cost of the project would be $4 million being spent from a three-year-old $45.7 million Worldinfo-icon Bank grant.

The WB official told in the conference that assisting Afghanistan’s financial sector was the bank’s top priority.

Abdullohaye said improving financial sector's capacity could play a crucial in economic growth of a country.

At the end, he also mentioned upcoming aids of the World Bank with Afghanistan.
