12-member target killer gang busted in Kandahar

KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): A dozen alleged targeted killers have been arrested by intelligence officials in southern Kandahar province, the spy-service said on Sunday.

A statement from the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon)’office said the suspects were detained based on the agency’s investigated information.

The statement identified the detainees as Mohammad Yunus, Mohammad Yaqub, Qutratullah, Gul Agha, Fida Mohammad, Mohammad Tahir, Qutratullah, Mohammad Naseem, Fateh Mohammad, Muhibullah, Abdul Bari and Niaz Mohammad.

The statement said some weapons and motorbikes were recovered from the group accused of killing police, tribal elders and disruptive acts in  the 9th police district of Kandahar City, Tirai Ada, Brishna Kot, Eidga-Darwaza localities.

In recent past, a number of security forces and some tribal elders had been killed in targeted attacks in the province.

Provincial officials believe the arrest of the group would help decrease terrorist attacks in the province.
