4 wounded as security forces set alight protest camp

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Protestors in southern Ghazni province have accused the security of attacking them, wounding four demonstrators and setting on fire their tent.

The protest erupted after two people including a child were killed by gunmen, who attacked a house in the Sherabad area of Qarabagh district on last Friday.

In reaction to the incident, hundreds of residents of Qarabagh have kept blocked the Kabul-Kandahar highway in their area and capital of the province over the past four days.

Aminullah Ibrahimzai, one of the protestors, told Pajhwok Afghan News Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers opened fire at their tent in Haiderabad area late on Monday night.

He said the tent was torched and four protestors were wounded. The injured are currently under treatment at the main hospital, Ibrahimzai added.

But Arif Noori, the governor’s spokesman, denied the claims. “Security forces told the protesters that one tent is enough and not to create problems for the people. But they erected more tents which the security forces are removing.”

The enraged protestors warned they would keep the Ghazni-Paktia and Ghazni-Kabul highways closed for traffic until their demands were met.
