HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The head of an investigation team of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLO) was Wednesday sentenced to five years in jail and payment of a $13,000 fine over bribery by the primary anti-corruption court in western Herat province.

The convict headed a three-member investigation delegation from Kabulinfo-icon to Herat to investigate activities of the Municipality, but he was caught red-handed receiving $13,000 in bribe.

The open trial of the three accused was held in Herat City and in the beginning, the prosecutor opened the case and presented his arguments against the accused individuals.

After hearing his arguments and those from the defense lawyer, the judge delivered his verdict.

Judge Adul Hadi Waseq sentenced the investigative delegation head to five years in jail and fined him $13,000. The two other members of the delegation were acquitted for lack of evidence against them.
