MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Seven Taliban insurgents have been killed in an Afghan Air Force (AAF) airstrike in the Alingar district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Thursday.
Sarhadi Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the AAF conducted the air raid in the Sangar Dara area of the district late on Wednesday.
Seven militants, including the group commander Zabihullah, were killed. The insurgents were allegedly involved in terrorist activities in the province.
Zwak said Afghan security forces also conducted a clearing operation codenamed Selab (1) to purge certain area of Taliban’s presence and establish check-posts.
He added several militants suffered casualties and many weapons and ammunitions were seized during the offensive.
According to another report, 47 kilograms of opium were recovered from a vehicle in the Elyas area of Qarghayee district during a nighttime raid by intelligence personnel. The drugs were being smuggled to Khogyani district of Nangarhar.
