China, Afghanistan to be connected via rail soon: Envoy

Mar 11, 2018 - 20:32

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): China’s Urumqi area would be connected with northern Afghanistaninfo-icon soon, the country’s envoy in Kabul said Sunday.

Liu Jingson was speaking at a meeting here, where a number of political parties’ members and civil societyinfo-icon activists were in presence.

Jingson said his country wanted to pave the ground for extension of railways through northern Afghanistan’s provinces.

He said Urumqi, a commercial town of China, would be soon connected through road and railways with northern region of Afghanistan.

Business affairs started through a railroad between Afghanistan and China a year ago, but the process stopped soon after one or two cargo exchanges.

The commercial exchanges through the railway from China and central Asian countries started via northern Balkh province, but suspended soon for an indefinite time.

Chinese envoy to Afghanistan, Liu Jingson, said some central Asian countries did not want imports from Afghanistan into China.

However, he did not name any country and neither provided more details about the issue.

On the other hand, he said China was ready to support the Afghan peace process.

Jingson said they would continue their efforts at ensuring a stable peace in Afghanistan. He promised to offer educational scholarships to Afghan students and journalists in future.

“China currently offers one-month visa but we have the plan to extend this period to several months,” he concluded.
