“Electrify our homes”, Baghlani Markazi residents urge DABS

Mar 13, 2018 - 21:38

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Residents of Baghlan-i-Markazi district say a power sub-station project has been completed in the town four months ago, but they are yet to avail electricity.

The resident say said all construction work on the sub-station has been completed with supply lines and meters already installed, but people’s homes are yet to be electrified.

Islamuddin, a resident of 12th Road in Baghlan-i-Markarzi district, said connections to 2,000 families had been extended, but electricity supply remained suspended.

He warned local residents would resort to staging protests if electricity was not provided to them soon.

Abdul Wahid, who lives in 10th Road area, told Pajhwok Afghan News that electricity lines reached their village four months ago but there had been no electricity.

He accused Da Afghanistaninfo-icon Breshana Shirkat (DABS), the power utility, of having ignored the sub-station. They said all technical issues had been resolved but the residents remained deprived of electricity.

Meanwhile, Eng. Abdulawal, operations chief at the provincial DABS office, said he had received a formal letter from the headquarters restricting them from releasing electricity to Baghlan-i-Markazi sub-station.

“The district chief has some reservations regarding the station’s construction activities, therefore he told us not to accept a work completion certificate from the company.”

He added all activities on the sub-station had been completed and the facility was ready to be made functional.

Baghlan-i-Markarzi district chief Khanzada Mazlumyar said in line with commitments all villages in the district should get electricity but it did not happen.

The sub-station established on eight acres of land has the capability to supply 16MW electricity.
