Iran invites Pakistan to participate in Chabahar port

Iran invites Pakistan to participate in Chabahar port

Mar 13, 2018 - 09:03

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Iran has invited Pakistaninfo-icon and China to participate in the Chabahar seaport, a project that also involves Afghanistaninfo-icon and India.

Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Javad Zarif, who held out the offer, sought to allay concerns in Islamabad over India’s involvement in the Iranian port.

On a three-day visit to Pakistan, Zarif made the offer while speaking at the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad. Tehran’s relations with Delhi were not against Islamabad, he assured.

Both Gwadar and Chabahar ports were vital to the development of Iran and Pakistan, he believed, suggesting a link between the two projects through sea and land routes.

“We are taking measures to do that and there is an open invitation to Pakistan to participate in that,” the visiting minister said, insisting Chabahar port was not meant to encircle Pakistan.
