IEC hints at 3-month delay in WJ election

IEC hints at 3-month delay in WJ election

Mar 18, 2018 - 19:25

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) on Sunday hinted at three months delay to the Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon (WJ) and District Councils Elections and said the process of voters’ registration would start in a month.

Earlier the IEC had announced July, 18, 2018 date for the Lower House and District Council polls.

Wasema Badghisi, deputy operational head of the IEC, expressed the view while handing over the first package of materials needed for the voters registration.

She added strong will existed for the conduct of WJ and District Council Polls this year.

“The IEC has completed its technical discussions and fresh date for WJ and District Council elections will be announced,” she said.

She recalled, the IEC was alone unable to organize election looking at the unusual situation and conflict in the country.

She said the material needed for voters’ registration was printed in China and Saudi Arabia and delivered to the IEC.

Badghisi said the two months voters registration process may began in mid April. In the first months the process would be conducted in the provincial capitals, 15 days in district centres and another 15 days in villages and far-flung areas.

“The individual who come to the registration centre gets a security code attached to his National Identity Card (NIC) and the same NIC with security code will be required on Election Day,” she said.

She said the past voters card were invalid and the future polls would be conducted on the bases of new voters card and NICs
