MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Eight Taliban Kot district of northern Faryab province.
The ground and air operation was conducted yesterday in Sarhoz area of the district where the rebels had assembled, a joint statement from the Faryab police and 209 Shaheen Military Corps said.
Eight insurgents, including a group leader, Qari Esa, were killed and seven others arrested during the operation.
Security forces also seized weapons and recaptured Yaka Took and Sang Zard areas from the rebels.
A local Taliban commander said the airstrike targeted a house where the Taliban had gathered, killing four Taliban and injuring three others.
A security official said NATO forces had also participated in the aerial attack.
Some 100 Afghan commandos and 200 uprising forces have been besieged by the Taliban in Sarhoz area. Three days ago, Baghlan residents protested against the siege and asked the government to break the siege.
