FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon militants have set a mobile phone tower on fire in western Farah province, disrupting telecom services, officials said on Monday.

Mir Ahmad, a resident of the Noawbahar village of the provincial capital, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Roshan telecommunication company’s antenna was torched last night.

The resident believed the tower was set alight due the guard’s refusal to meet a Taliban demand for switching off the antenna from dusk to dawn.

Dadullah Qane, a provincial council (PC) member, confirmed the incident and expressed his concern over the disruption of telecom service in the area.

The Taliban, who have not yet commented on the attack, say they want telecom antennas in the area switched off from evening to morning due to security threats.
