US diplomat in Islamabad for talks on Afghanistan

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A senior US diplomat has arrived in Pakistaninfo-icon on an official visit for talks on a wide range of issues, including Afghanistaninfo-icon

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia Alice G Wells is due to meet senior Pakistani officials, Geo News reported.

US-Pakistan relations, the Afghan peace processand regional developments are on the agenda. Progress in implementing President Donald Trump’s policy for South Asia will also be reviewed.

In Washington, the State Department said: “Wells will discuss our South Asia strategy and Pakistan's stated commitment to eliminating terrorist groups on its soil.”

Wells previously visited Pakistan in January, accompanied by officials from the US National Security Council and Ambassador David Hale.

On that occasion, Wells had underlined the centrality of Pakistan’s support to the success of America’s strategy in Afghanistan.
