Can’t take unilateral decision of refugees: Pakistan

Can’t take unilateral decision of refugees: Pakistan

Mar 31, 2018 - 09:06

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistaninfo-icon says it cannot take a unilateral decision on the repatriation of Afghan refugees, as all stakeholders have to be taken on board.

A policy of forced evacuation of Afghan refugees in the 1990s had fallen by the wayside, the coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) said.

Ihsan Ghani told journalists in Islamabad on Friday that the Afghan refugees who were previously trucked across the border managed to return to Pakistan without any difficulty.

A refugee policy should have been framed in 1979, the official believed, saying a strategy was going to be unveiled soon. NGOs and international organisations are part of the process for framing the policy.

The Islamic State (IS), also known as Daesh, posed a real threat to Pakistan, the NACTA coordinator said, claiming the militant outfit had a significant presence in Afghanistaninfo-icon.
