KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Thursday said vehicles carrying police number plates and serials which belonged to the ministry would no longer be allowed to be used by VIPs, MPs and influential figures.

A statement from the MoI received by Pajhwok Afghan News said a number of police officials, powerful figures, drivers of some government organs and Parliament members continued to use police vehicles and equipment.

The ministry said such figures often violated traffic rules while driving, an issue that has displeased people and harmed police reputation.

“Therefore these vehicles that belong to the MoI but are used outside the framework of the ministry by some VIPs, parliament members, tribal elders and influential figures in capital Kabul and provinces would be no longer allowed to be used with police number plates and serial numbers.

The statement said customs police now under the Ministry of Finance and border police now under the Ministry of Defense also still used MoI vehicles.

“Illegal use of MoI vehicles gives opportunists a chance of misuse,” the MoI statement read, adding people using MoI vehicles without number plates and with MoI logo should return them and those misusing the vehicles would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
