GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Five Russians were part of a delegation from the company holding contract of Machalgho Dam’s construction on Thursday visited the site in southeastern Paktika province, vowing to launch their work soon.

Accompanied by provincial officials, the contractors along with five Russian officials visited the site in Ahmadabad district and said work on the dam’s construction would be launched soon.

About the dam’s project, Paktika Governor Shamim Khan Katawazai, who accompanied the delegation, told Pajhwok Afghan News that no security or other issues existed in the area and the company could launch its work with full confidence.

“This is an international company that builds dams in 12 other countries. We have come to the dam’s site to consult with local residents who are fully cooperative and there is adequate military force for security of the dam,” said Katawazai.

Provincial Council member Sakhi Jan Wafayar said construction of the Machalgho Dam was a public welfare project and local residents were committed to its security.

Hamid, head of the Project Design Company in Afghanistaninfo-icon, said they had studied the site and work on the dam would start after 15 percent of the designing was completed.

The Project Design Company has recently signed the Machalgho Dam construction contract at a cost of $22 million.
