QALAT (Pajhwok): Construction work on a 100-bed hospital has been launched in the capital of southern Zabul province, local officials said on Friday.

The medical project, to be completed in two years, would help address healthinfo-icon problems of Zabul residents. The hospital will have all requisite facilities.

Public Health Director Dr. Lal Mohammad Tokhi told Pajhwok Afghan News the government was paying due heed to resolving basic problems of the people.

The hospital, costing $2 million, was being constructed in response to public demand, the official said. The funds are being provided by the Ministry of Public Health.

At the foundation-laying ceremony, Governor Khyal Mohammad Hussaini commended the ministry for according approval to a big project for Zabul.

Access to health facilities is the right and need of every Afghan citizen, according to the governor, who promised implementing more projects in the public health sector.

Meanwhile, residents also welcomed the central government’s gesture. They demanded the hospital should be built to modern standards and be equipped with contemporary facilities.
