Dozens of illegal armed groups active in Samangan

AIBAK (Pajhwok): Dozens of illegal armed groups have been active in northern Samangan province, a government delegation was told on Sunday.

The high level delegation from Kabulinfo-icon led by President Ghani advisor on anti-administrative corruption Mohammad Nader Mohseni addressed  a gathering in Aibak, the provincial capital.

Other members of the delegation included representatives from the Chief Executive Office, the Attorney General Office, the ministries of defence and interior, the National Directorate of Security or NDSinfo-icon and the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG).

Hundreds of officials from various sectors and civil societyinfo-icon activists, former jihadiinfo-icon commanders and members of the Provincial Council attended the gathering.

Mohseni said they traveled to Samangan after concerns about the increasing presence of irresponsible gunmen increased.

Governor Abdul Latif Ibrahimi denied Talibaninfo-icon’s influence in Samangan but said problems had been created by unauthorized armed groups.

Hajji Raz Mohammad, the provincial council chief, said the number of illegal armed groups was increasing with each passing day.

He said the government should disarm the illegal gunmen or recruit them as uprising group members in order to keep security for their own areas.
