Corruption cripples logistics supply to forces: MPs

Corruption cripples logistics supply to forces: MPs

Apr 11, 2018 - 20:07

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Some Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon members on Wednesday said corruption in supply system of logistic materials to security forces had been behind the collapse of security posts.

Mohammad Arif Rahmani, a lower house member from southern Ghazni province said: “Logistics should reach security forces on time because a number of security personnel on the frontline have already complained about a poor supply system.”

He further said security forces even did not receive drinking water and bread on time, something responsible for the fall of a number of security posts to insurgents.

"Corruption in this sector has reached its peak,” alleged Rahmani, who called for a review of all logistic agreements and callling security bosses to a special lower house session.

MP Allah Gul Mujahid from capital Kabul expressed similar views and said: “Corruption in the ministries of defense and interior has long been there and logistics are not dispatched to security forces on time.”
“As far as I know and some reports that have come to us, the national soldiers defend and fight with hungry stomach on the frontlines as their ration is swallowed by high ups before reaching them”, Mujahid said.

Some other lawmakers also expressed similar concern about corruption in logistic supplies to security forces and called for a strict oversight in all contracts in this regards.

Deputy speaker Humayon, who chaired today’s Wolesi Jirga’s session, also said corruption widely existed in logistic contracts for security fores and the supplies were delayed ---what he called ‘a clear reason’ behind the collapse of security check-posts.

He tasked a lower house commission exclusively with evaluating logistic supply contracts for security forces.
