Ghazni: 3 police, guest killed in Taliban attack

Apr 11, 2018 - 15:52

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Three policemen and one civilian were killed in a Talibaninfo-icon attack in the Zankhan district of southern Ghazni province, an official said Wednesday.

The militants attacked a police check-post in the district late on Tuesday night, killing three policemen and a guest, said Mohammad Arif Noori, the governor’s spokesman.

He told Pajhwok the guest was a civilian and that three other policemen were wounded in the ensuing clash that lasted until Wednesday morning.

The attack was repulsed after reinforcements arrived, said Noori, who claimed the Taliban had suffered heavy casualties in the clash, but exact figures were not immediately available.

Mohammad Ibrahim, a resident of the area, said the insurgents stormed Angar security check-post. “The clash was ongoing till the morning and I don’t know if the Taliban briefly held the post. “

The Taliban also confirmed the clash in Zankhan, with their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, claiming six policemen were killed and the rebels overran three posts in the attack.
